Transplant Denied – COVID Shot Required

When I called to ask about scheduling the surgery, they indicated for the first time, that the covid shot would be required before they could move me forward in the process. I’ve sent two legal letters through my attorney and have not gotten a response yet from the local hospital.

I was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure in March of 2021.  I started in home peritoneal dialysis in May of the same year.  Seven of my friends, submitted their paperwork in order to be considered a living donor.  The hospital made it through 2 of them when the living donor was identified.  In September of this year, the living donor finished up and completed her evaluation.  When I called to ask about scheduling the surgery, they indicated for the first time, that the covid shot would be required before they could move me forward in the process.  In addition, they indicated the ICU beds were at capacity and that no transplants could be scheduled.   Also, in August I was notified that since I had a living donor, I was placed “inactive” in the universal deceased donor list.  I’ve sent two legal letters through my attorney and have not gotten a response yet from the local hospital.
